More specifically what is the actual useful output of a UV bulb. Take a look if you are interested.

http://www.uvsterilizerreview.com/2013/10/actual-uv-c-emission-from-uv-bulb.htmlStevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07518380826976185580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19334989.post-32850317640603771002013-09-30T11:28:10.811-07:002013-09-30T11:28:10.811-07:00ObM;
This is correct.
However the calculations her...ObM;
This is correct.
However the calculations here assume that one is using a low pressure mercury UVC lamp.
The actual output is 35% useful UVC irradiation.

This number would result in 2.8 watts, close to the 2.4 number you provided. This indicates these lamps are slightly lower output than some, but still in the ball park of being a "good" uv bulb to use.

However if one uses a medium pressure UV bulb, the actual useful UVC output is lass than 10% and thus an 8 watt bulb of this type would produce less than 1 watt of useful UVC energy.

My point is the numbers of say 30 gph per watt of UV bulb for level one Sterilization is ASSUMING a low pressure UV bulb.

All bets are off if one purchases one of the many cheapie medium pressure bulbs being peddled on eBay and Amazon.

See also:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet_germicidal_irradiationStevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07518380826976185580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19334989.post-33013303468408371532013-09-25T21:16:33.106-07:002013-09-25T21:16:33.106-07:00Hey there!
